six month stats

After two days of Christmas celebrations, we headed to the doctor for Owen's six month check-up. He has dropped out of the 90th percentile, but is still well above average. Here are the official stats:

Wt.: 18 lbs., 11 oz.
Ht.: 27 1/2 inches
Head: 45 cm

We've become even more gun shy about vaccinations and so he only got one shot today. We're going to continue to keep things minimal until he gets much bigger. The plus side is none of the usual post-shot fussiness. He was a happy boy today and seems to be progressing quite well. Next step: solids. He's definitely ready for them! If mom and dad can get in line he'll be a happy boy. Christmas pics to come.........

the many faces of Lewis

Thanks to Baby Bumblebee videos Lewis has learned a lot of action words recently. One of those actions is "smile." Now when we ask him to smile, he gives us these super cheesy faces. After dinner tonight, he was particularly silly and here are some prime examples.

too busy to blog

There are just 8 shopping days left before Christmas, and we have been working hard to get everything crossed off our list which is why we haven't been posting much on here. I'll try to sum up our lives over the last week or so.

Owen continues to work on sitting up. He's doing quite well! Because Lewis loves his Signing Time videos while we cook dinner, Owen has joined him in the fun and seems to find them extremely entertaining. Tonight he was doing his fake cough laugh the whole time. And we find that if a video is on, he can sit up for a full half hour without falling back at all. And who knows, maybe he'll become a pro "signer" in the process. Here he is in front of our tree.

He's been chewing on that rabbit a whole lot, and drooling incessantly. We're wondering if he'll get a tooth for Christmas. He's also been spending quite a bit of time in his walker. He seems to really enjoy the small amount of freedom he has rolling around the kitchen.

Justin, on the other hand, had to tackle a hole in our roof over the weekend. Thank God for Jonathan Cahoon, our friend, who knows how to fix such problems. We had been having a terrible leak in our foyer which almost caused the demise of Justin's newest Macbook. This is what the roof looked like before.

No wonder, huh?! Keep in mind, they had to tear off some loose shingles to find it like this. But after 4+ hours of hard work, it is in great condition once again. And it's a good thing since the forecast is calling for rain and snow all week. Justin forgot to take an 'after' picture. Sorry!

While all of that was going on, I finally got Owen's stocking made. I'm not a crafty person, but I manage to make a decent stocking out of felt, and didn't him want to feel left out! So this is our mantle with our latest addition.

lewis and the lights

Yesterday was the annual "light up the fountain" celebration in downtown Bowling Green. We missed the big ceremonial turning on of all the lights in the square, but I took Lewis down later on to run around for a few minutes. It was FREEZING cold. Probably 28 degrees F or so. Anyway, we did not linger very long, but Lewis was mesmerized by the beauty of all those lights. He ran around and around the fountain. The little bit of water left in it reflected the lights that were hanging up above and it looked really cool!

We took some pictures even though it was really dark. Here's the serious look:

And Lewis' silly smile.

We tried to take a couple together. The first one is our crazy, "wow this flash is bright" look.

And the more normal, yet blurry look.

We've finally got our house basically decorated for Christmas. It took all week. We have also given Lewis another haircut (we'll post more pictures soon). He was looking like a composer so we had to do something. And Owen has rolled over from belly to back, two days in a row! No multiple rolls yet, but he seems very eager to give it a try. He's sitting pretty well with the Boppy. He eventually gives up and ends up laying on it, but he can sit for 5-10 minutes very nicely. Both boys are fighting coughs and congestion still again, but they are in good spirits.

I took a very short video of Lewis at the square. He was so excited I wanted to do more, but I couldn't see anything and figured it wouldn't turn out. But here he is saying "guh guh," his only consistent sound. He has recently started saying the 'D' sound again, and we've heard 'T', 'K', and 'M' some too. So that is encouraging. He lost most of his sounds about this time last year. It's nice to be getting some back!

thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving up in Louisville with our families. Justin had to go back to work on Friday so I stayed in order to visit longer with my dad, Martha and my sisters. We got to see the Shepherds too on Friday for a while, but the whole thing went by so fast.

My sister, Beth, came prepared to try out some of her ABA skills on Lewis. She was blowing up balloons, letting them go, and then getting him to perform various tasks in order for her to do it again. He loved it! She also had a glitter ball and Lewis got really into taking turns with the ball, also vocalizing to get another turn. It was like a weekend of therapy.

Beth blowing up yet another balloon for Lewis.

Lewis excited after all the air has gone out.

In the meantime, Ellen spent some time with Owen. Poor Ellen was not feeling so great, but she tried to be in a good mood.

And Martha got to snuggle with Owen some too.
