vacation part 2--boys' birthday party

Since Owen's birthday (4) was on June 21st and Lewis' (6) was on June 28th, we opted to celebrate with Justin's family the day after we arrived (June 17th) so that the boys would have some toys to play with and so we wouldn't need to pack very many to take along.  Owen had asked for Sesame Street cupcakes (after the inspirational Sesame Street Live performance earlier this year), and we made a couple with ninjas for Lewis.

Lewis was blowing out the candles as I lit them, so it was a challenge!

They wanted to help each other with the candle blowing.

Grandpa shared his cupcake with Phoebe.

Then it was time for gifts!

The boys got some cool things, including a "rocket launcher" that blows foam rockets after an air pouch is stomped on. They all loved this item!

We got Lewis a glockenspiel because he loves playing the piano and our toy xylophone.  He has not taken quickly to playing it yet, but loves beating the sticks on everything.  We have high hopes he will become an expert one day.  We really enjoyed celebrating with the Shepherd/Tinnell crew!
